Meet Lauren
My name is Lauren Shernoff and I am running for the Loudoun County School Board, Leesburg District Seat.
Leesburg has been my home for the last 8 years. My husband and I have had the privilege of raising our 2 beautiful daughters in this community where they both attend LCPS Schools. I believe in this community and I believe in our public schools. It is my belief that my role as a LCPS parent and my experience in education are the greatest strengths I offer as a potential member of the board.
I believe in our schools because I work in our schools.
As an active member of the community and local school I carry with me the belief that children are most successful when the ties between school and community are strong.
I believe we must prioritize students’ needs first as we balance their safety with their equity of access to dynamic core instruction.
Parents and teachers in partnership help strengthen the education a child receives. The more parents have trust and faith in our schools the more support they will offer. Navigating everyone's diverse beliefs and desires can be difficult but I believe that I am ready to show both parents and educators that we can rally together, leverage strengths, and use our differences for the best outcomes of our collective students.

I believe in our schools because I work in our schools.
I have been a public educator for the past 16 years. In graduate school I found my passion for teaching, working with students with Autism, and then working in Honduras to build a preschool for children living with HIV. Then I was a primary teacher in Fairfax County working in Title 1 schools before moving to Loudoun as a part time English and Language Arts Facilitator.
My range of experience with diverse learners helped me see the value in supporting individual student needs. Every student deserves to be represented and every decision we make will impact them.
In addition, teachers are feeling weighed down with the learning gap created by Covid-19 and an ever changing system. Instead of supporting teachers and streamlining the things that matter, this district has made decisions that continue to ask more of teachers with less and less support. By working with teachers in our schools I see the weight and stress that is put on them.
I want teachers to feel supported and heard so they can prioritize teaching again.
Representing the voices of students and teachers is a responsibility I do not take lightly. I will draw on all my experiences to help remember what is at stake and how important the work of a school board is.
The current climate surrounding the Loudoun County School Board could be characterized as controversial, chaotic, and careless.
It is my belief that the current board is losing sight of student needs and they are not listening to parents and educators.
As a result, the focus has shifted from student safety and academics to what the board prioritizes personally and politically. Partisan politics have taken over what should be a non-partisan leadership team that serves its community and listens to its stakeholders. As both a parent and an educator in LCPS, I have had enough of this kind of leadership.
I believe we need a leader rooted in day to day school life, where experience in classrooms with students and teachers guides the decision making. In addition, parents must be allowed to participate in their child’s education. We as parents are our children’s first teacher and as such, their greatest advocate.
I am excited to represent voices that have been ignored for far too long. It’s time to fight for the right things and I plan to do that. I hope you will support students, parents, and teachers by voting for me this November.
The students of Loudoun matter, the educators in Loudoun matter, and the families of Loudoun matter. Let’s bring that back into focus.
